A 10 point day baby

Yup it’s a 10 point day today. I figure if I’m going to get publicly hounded for publicly announcing my goals and then publicly not doing them, I can at least publicly get rewarded for publicly doing them. (Publicly)

Today I woke up with the alarm and then this evening my productive thing was fixing the DVD player. It has not been working for the past few days and “ate” one of the library DVDs. I was a little reticent to tackle this because the last time I tried to “fix” a DVD player, I umm “fixed” it. And of course by fix I mean completely destroyed to the point that I gave it up for free on Craigslist. Anyway this one was much easier. I unscrewed it and it turns out umm cough cough someone put 2 DVDs in there at once. I jiggled it, they came out, and I am done with my productive thing at 8:19 p.m.

  1. People will take broken things on Craigslist? Maybe it’s time to ditch the exercise bike my teen daughter broke in a fit of pique last year…

  2. Yup. There are some weird people on Craigslist. Well, there are some weird people everywhere – it’s just that some of them happen to hang around Craigslist.

This was the ad I posted:

Free 13″? Portable TV / DVD player (broken)

I’ve got a free portable Magnavox TV / DVD player. I’m not sure the exact size but I’m going to go with about 13″.

It worked great for us for several years (life saver on long car trips!!) but now has a few problems.

    1. My kids broke the antenna off, so the over the air reception doesn’t come in that great. Probably could be fixed, should you be inclined in such a way

    2. A few months ago the DVD tray stopped opening. When you hit eject, it clicks and whirs but doesn’t come out. Not being able to put DVDs in kind of hampers its usefulness 🙂

A few weeks ago I took it apart to see if I could try and fix it. There’s a little mechanism that wasn’t quite aligned. I played around with it but my limited abilities was not able to get it quite working.

And, just like my wife warned me would happen, I couldn’t get it all back together :-D. All the pieces are still there, and if you’re mechanically / electrically inclined, you could pick up a $100 piece of electronics for free.

Let me know if you want to stop by and I will set it out on the porch for you. I will delete this post once it’s gone.

  3. No way to reply to your comment (register an e-mail with Blogger!), so I’ll answer here:

All these years I thought he was saying, “Printer’s dead,” because he had just crawled out from beneath the desk. Were people really saying “Print is dead” back in 1983?!
